Dust Off Your Favorite Era—Join Irvine's 55th Anniversary Dance Party

Celebrate Irvine's 55th anniversary at a free homecoming-themed dance party on Saturday, August 8, at the Great Park. The event begins at 5:30 p.m. with food and drinks available for purchase, followed by live music, a DJ, a Silent DJ, and dancing. Guests are encouraged to wear homecoming-inspired outfits from their favorite era and bring lawn chairs.

From Lobster Mac to Fresh Gelato: Elevated Comfort Foods to Try at Irvine Spectrum

Craving the comfort foods you loved as a kid? Irvine Spectrum Center offers elevated versions of childhood favorites—from gourmet mac and cheese and grilled cheese to creative pasta, loaded tots, and authentic Italian gelato.

  • Mastro's Ocean Club: Lobster Mac & Cheese featuring a whole Maine lobster and five cheeses, served sizzling in a hot skillet.

  • The Melt: Enjoy the Three Cheese Classic grilled cheese made with aged cheddar, Muenster, and fontina.

Waste Management Senior Discount Available for Irvine Residents 65+

Irvine residents ages 65 and older may be eligible for a discounted Waste Management curbside trash and recycling service. Because the discount is not applied automatically, eligible residents are encouraged to submit a brief application to receive the reduced rate of $27.98 per month. Participants may choose from 35-, 64-, or 96-gallon carts.

Families Invited to a Fun Jr. Ranger Nature Program at Mason Regional Park, August 5

Kids ages 8–12 and families are invited to join the OC Parks Jr. Ranger Adventure at Mason Regional Park on Wednesday, August 5, from 3–4 p.m. Participants will earn a Jr. Ranger badge while learning about invasive animals and observing the park’s turtles.

UCI Health Expert Shares Simple Microwave Safety Tip

Microwaves are generally considered safe for everyday use, and research has not found a causal link between microwave ovens and cancer. According to UCI Health integrative oncology expert Dr. Gary Deng, the main safety recommendation is to avoid standing too close while a microwave is operating, as any potential microwave leakage decreases significantly with distance. Experts recommend standing about 1 to 3 feet away and ensuring the appliance is not damaged or tampered with for safe daily use.

Join an After Work Fitness Hike at Irvine Open Space Preserve on August 10

Join the After Work Fitness Hike on Monday, August 10, from 6:00–7:30 p.m. at the Irvine Open Space Preserve. This 3.5-mile paved hike follows Hicks Haul Road to Loma Ridge, offering sunset views and panoramic scenery while maintaining a brisk pace of about 3–3.5 mph.

Make Your Own Bath Bombs & Bath Salts at University Park Library, August 7

Adults are invited to a hands-on bath bomb and bath salts workshop at University Park Library on Friday, August 7, from 2–3:30 p.m. Create your own scented self-care treats to enjoy at home or give as gifts. Walk-ins are welcome while supplies last.

The Irvine Animal Care Center has officially joined the nationwide Clear the Shelters campaign. Throughout August, adoption fees are waived for select long-term shelter pets marked with a purple icon on their kennel cards, making it the perfect time to meet your future furry companion and give a pet a loving home.

UCI Pitcher Finnegan Wall Signs with Minnesota Twins

UC Irvine pitcher Finnegan Wall has signed with the Minnesota Twins as an undrafted free agent after five seasons with the Anteaters. He joins the Twins organization after a strong 2026 season and becomes the 28th UC Irvine baseball alum currently playing professionally.
