IPD Urges Drivers to Respect Crossing Guards

The Irvine Police Department (IPD) has many crossing guards to ensure children's safety. However, some drivers aren't stopping for them. Everyone should approach crosswalks cautiously and stop for pedestrians.

Irvine Tops FBI List as Safest U.S. City for 18th Year in a Row

Irvine is the safest city in the U.S. with a population of 250,000 or more, based on 2022 FBI violent crime data. This marks the 18th year in a row for Irvine holding this distinction. Mayor Farrah N. Khan praises the Irvine Police Department (IPD) for their dedication and professionalism. Police Chief Michael Kent attributes the low crime rates to the combined efforts of the IPD, community, and City leaders. The FBI uses the National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS) to define violent crimes, which are then reported to the California Department of Justice and forwarded to the FBI.

Alyssa Moore Earns Sgt. Pepperoni’s Anteater of the Week Title

Alyssa Moore was named Sgt. Pepperoni’s Anteater of the Week for her performance against UC San Diego and UC Riverside. She had two shots on goal in a 0-0 draw with UC San Diego and scored in a 2-0 win over UC Riverside. Moore has tied her career-high with six goals this season, with three regular-season games left.

UC Irvine Triumphs Over Westcliff with a 23-13 Victory in Men's Water Polo

UC Irvine men's water polo team defeated Westcliff 23-13 on Wednesday. Dylan Patist led with four goals. Jake Liechty, Luka Krstic, and Johann Thrall each scored a hat-trick. Jasper Dale, Wyley Dale, and Zachary Baxter added two goals each. This 23-goal tally is UC Irvine's highest this season. Goalkeepers Garrett Selby, Nolan Cary, and Jacob Pyle played, with Pyle also contributing three assists and two steals. Westcliff's top performer was Manuel Augusto with six goals. The game saw UC Irvine leading 8-1 in the first period, 12-9 in the second, 17-12 in the third, and sealing the win with 23-13 in the fourth. UC Irvine will next face No. 10/10 UC Santa Barbara on Oct. 21 at Los Pueblos High School.
