The Irvine Police Department is set to debut a Tesla Cybertruck as part of its fleet, becoming one of the first in the nation to use the electric vehicle. The Cybertruck, costing over $60,000, will be used for community outreach rather than high-speed pursuits. Furry Frenzy: 23 Pets Adopted and 5 Reunited in a Pawsome Week

During July 15–21, 4 dogs (Avery, Harland, Tartine, and Thistle) and 19 cats (Apple, Bandit, Betty, Biscotti, Blue, Brie, Chevy, Cosmo, Inky, Katydid, Linzer, Maui, Nissan, Ponyo, Stud, Tombo, Totoro, Wiley, and Zorro) were adopted. Additionally, 1 dog (Maui) and 1 cat (Missy) were sent to rescue, while 3 dogs, 1 cat, and 1 tortoise were returned to their owners. UC Irvine Alum JC Butler Leads Miami HEAT to NBA 2K25 Summer League Championship

UC Irvine alum JC Butler won the NBA 2K25 Summer League Championship with the Miami HEAT, defeating the Memphis Grizzlies 120-118 in overtime. The HEAT went undefeated at 6-0, beating the Golden State Warriors 102-99 in the semifinals. Butler played 16 minutes against the Toronto Raptors, scoring six points and grabbing five rebounds. Butler, a 2023 sociology graduate from UC Irvine, contributed to four championships, including a historic NCAA Tournament win in 2019.

UCI’s Josh Farmer Leads Team USA to Decathlon Victory at 2024 Thorpe Cup

UC Irvine alum Josh Farmer helped Team USA win the decathlon at the 2024 Thorpe Cup in Wetzlar, Germany, finishing ninth overall with 7,282 points. Team USA's total was 39,065 points, surpassing Germany's 37,472 points. Farmer's notable performances included a 100m time of 11.23 seconds, a 7.24m long jump, and a near personal record javelin throw of 54.46m. Farmer, a three-time All-American and Big West decathlon champion, also placed 12th at the NCAA Championships and qualified for the U.S. Olympic Trials.

Irvine Valley Infielder Gavin Grutzmacher Commits to Coppin State University

Irvine Valley sophomore infielder Gavin Grutzmacher has committed to NCAA Division I Coppin State University after playing 36 games this past season for IVC, where he hit .260 with 33 hits, nine doubles, three home runs, and 11 RBI, while also stealing eight bases and achieving a .402 slugging percentage. Grutzmacher, who can play multiple infield positions and excelled at third base, previously played at NCAA Division II Concordia University and is a Temecula Valley High alum. Irvine Valley ended their season with a 14-26 overall record and 5-16 in conference. Coppin State represents 14 teams in various sports.
