How Diet, Exercise and Healthy Habits Can Reduce Stroke Risk

Many strokes may be preventable through healthy lifestyle changes and managing risk factors such as high blood pressure. UCI Health stroke specialist Dr. Wengui Yu recommends focusing on everyday habits that support heart and brain health.
Limit salt: Too much sodium can raise blood pressure, a major risk factor for stroke.
Eat well: Aim for plenty of fruits and vegetables and include fish two to three times a week.
Stay active: Try to get at least 30 minutes of moderate exercise each day.
Stay hydrated: Drink enough water throughout the day to help prevent dehydration.
Avoid smoking: Smoking greatly increases stroke risk, and secondhand smoke can also be harmful.
Limit alcohol: Keeping alcohol intake low can help reduce health risks.
Manage health conditions: Work with your healthcare provider to control high blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes and atrial fibrillation.
Know BE FAST: Watch for sudden Balance problems, Eye or vision changes, Face drooping, Arm weakness or Speech difficulty. Time matters — call 9-1-1 immediately if these symptoms occur, even if they go away.

Irvine Police Arrest Two Suspects in Catalytic Converter Thefts

Irvine police arrested two men in connection with the theft of catalytic converters from four vehicles in May. Police said the suspects initially escaped after leading officers on a pursuit, but detectives later identified them through an investigation and surveillance. Christopher Leon Estrada, 20, of Anaheim, and Miguel Villalobos, 21, of Los Angeles, were arrested on multiple theft and evading charges. Police said both were driving stolen vehicles when arrested, and detectives found cutting tools, masks, gloves, and a key programmer.
