Irvine Election Heats Up with $800,000 in Campaign Spending Two Weeks Before Election Day

As Irvine approaches Election Day, major spending has ramped up in one of the city’s most pivotal elections, influenced by the shift to district voting. Big contributors include the county firefighter union, the Lincoln Club, and McDonald's franchise owners, collectively pouring nearly $800,000 into supporting their preferred candidates. Notably, Councilwoman Tammy Kim leads the mayoral race fundraising, with over $300,000 in support, while her opponents have raised smaller amounts. In City Council races, top fundraisers include Melinda Liu, William Go, and Mike Carroll, with significant backing from unions and political action committees.
Wildlife in Irvine: 10-Year-Old Suffers Minor Coyote Bite While Riding Bike

A 10-year-old was bitten by a coyote while riding a bike near Pathway last morning. The child sustained minor injuries, and Irvine's Animal Services Unit is collaborating with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife to investigate the incident and locate the coyote. Coyotes are native to the area, and residents are encouraged to take precautions, such as:
supervising pets outdoors
considering making pets indoor-only
avoiding retractable leashes
keeping yards free of fallen fruit and pet food
Concordia University Irvine Embarks on $45 Million Campus Renovation, Set for 2026 Completion

The renovations are part of a larger Vision 2025 initiative, aimed at enhancing student experience and attracting top athletes. The worship center will increase seating and improve acoustics, while the new fitness center will offer extensive facilities for athletes and students alike. The project is expected to be completed by 2026, in time for the university's 50th anniversary, with $38 million already raised. Additionally, Concordia is expanding its nursing programs at a newly acquired Spectrum Campus facility, addressing local healthcare workforce needs.

Headaches vs. Migraines: Key Differences and When to Seek Help

Headaches and migraines are often confused, but understanding the key differences can improve management and treatment.
Headaches, typically caused by tension or blood flow changes, are characterized by mild to moderate pain affecting both sides of the head.
Migraines, however, involve complex brain interactions, causing severe, throbbing pain on one side, often with symptoms like nausea, light sensitivity, and visual disturbances.
Migraines last longer and can be debilitating, unlike most headaches. Recognizing triggers and when to seek medical help, especially for frequent or severe headaches, is crucial for proper care.

October Is Fire Prevention Month: Essential Tips to Keep Your Home Safe from Wildfires

Wildfire preparedness starts at home. Create defensible space by clearing flammable materials in three zones: Immediate (0-5 feet), Intermediate (5-30 feet), and Extended (30-100 feet).
Trim trees
remove dead plants
use fire-resistant materials like gravel instead of mulch
regularly check for loose shingles
clear debris
avoid storing flammable items under structures
install fire-resistant siding and windows
ensure street names and numbers are visible for emergency access
have an emergency plan and know two escape routes
Stay safe and informed by visiting OC Fire Authority.

Keep Your Pet Safe: The Importance of Checking Medication Expiry Dates & Disposal Tips

Ensure your pet's medication is not expired, as it may no longer be safe or effective.
To dispose of unused or expired medication properly take it to a pharmacy or participate in a local drug take-back day.
For at-home disposal, remove pills from the prescription bottle before throwing them away, and follow the label instructions for disposing of liquid medications down the drain or toilet if indicated.

Suspect Arrested for Stealing $3,000 E-Bike Tracked to Santa Ana

A $3,000 Super-73 e-bike was stolen from LA Fitness on Irvine Blvd by a suspect wearing a hoodie with "Crooks" boldly displayed. Thanks to the bike’s tracker, the owner traced it to Santa Ana, where Santa Ana PD found the stolen bike on a rack attached to a vehicle. The suspect, Richard Michael Saucedo, 52, of Westminster, was arrested and booked for grand theft at Orange County Jail. This incident highlights the importance of having a tracker on valuable items like e-bikes. Santa Ana PD is thanked for their quick assistance.
