Irvine Council Postpones Decision on Golf Course Ballot Measure

Irvine’s planned 2025 ballot measure on whether to preserve or redevelop the Oak Creek Golf Course may be delayed to 2026 due to environmental review requirements under the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA).
At the July 22 City Council meeting, members opted not to finalize ballot language and instead asked the city attorney to return in August with two possible measures—one on citywide open space protections and another specifically addressing Oak Creek.
The Irvine Company has proposed replacing the 193-acre golf course with 3,100 homes and public amenities in exchange for 315 acres of open space elsewhere.
The council will revisit the issue on August 12.
