Taking Care of Your Memory: UCI Health Doctor Shares When to Seek Guidance

Occasional forgetfulness, such as misplacing keys or forgetting names, can be a normal part of aging as the brain’s processing speed gradually slows, beginning as early as our 30s. According to Dr. Brian D. Hitt, a behavioral neurologist at UCI Health, more concerning signs include forgetting entire conversations, frequently repeating yourself, or experiencing confusion noticed by others. While these symptoms do not necessarily mean dementia, persistent memory changes should be evaluated by a doctor, as early detection may improve treatment options.

Meet the Gray Fox: Irvine’s Shy, Tree-Climbing Wildlife Neighbor

Gray foxes are shy, mostly nocturnal animals that live in the Irvine Ranch Natural Landmarks but are rarely seen. Known for their gray, reddish-brown, and white fur and black-striped tails, they are among the few members of the canine family that can climb trees. They eat rodents, insects, small animals, fruits, and berries, helping control pests and spread seeds. A gray fox was recently captured on a wildlife camera in Irvine’s Open Space Preserve, highlighting the importance of protecting natural habitats and wildlife corridors.

Understanding Pet Snoring: Common Causes and When to See a Vet

Snoring is fairly common in pets and is often harmless, especially if they have snored for most of their lives. Common causes include sleeping positions, flat-faced breeds like pugs and Persian cats, excess weight, allergies, or blocked airways. However, new or worsening snoring could be a sign of an underlying health issue. Some flat-faced pets may also experience breathing difficulties during everyday activities. If you notice changes in your pet’s snoring or breathing, it’s a good idea to consult your veterinarian to help keep your furry friend healthy and comfortable.
