Enjoy Summer Safely With These Fire Pit and Barbecue Burn Prevention Tips

Fire pits, campfires, and barbecues can remain dangerously hot long after the flames are out. UCI Health encourages everyone to take a few simple precautions this summer to help prevent burn injuries, especially for children and pets.
🔥 Keep children and pets a safe distance from fire pits, campfires, and barbecues.
🪵 Avoid burying hot coals or charcoal in sand, as they can stay hot for many hours.
💧 Extinguish coals thoroughly by soaking them with water twice, five minutes apart, or allow them to burn out completely if water is unavailable.
⚠️ Even without visible flames or smoke, always assume fire pits and grills may still be hot.
🩹 If a burn occurs, cool it with running water for up to 10 minutes, cover it with a clean, cool cloth, and seek medical care for larger or more serious burns.

Join a Morning of Outdoor Art and Creativity at Irvine Ranch Historic Park on July 18

Join OC Parks for Create in the Park on Saturday, July 18, from 9 a.m. to noon at Irvine Ranch Historic Park.
