CFA Firefighters Recover After Rollover Accident; One Released, Another Transferred to Neuro Rehab

One of the injured members from the September 19th OCFA Hand Crew rollover accident has been moved from OC Global to Craig Hospital, a renowned neurorehabilitation center in Colorado. A Squad Boss, husband, and new father, he was surrounded by family, friends, and fellow firefighters during the transition. His strength and courage continue to inspire those supporting him. Another injured crew member, recovering at Rancho Los Amigos since October 2nd, has been released and is now home. The OCFA community, including Local 3631 and the Benevolent Association, remains dedicated to supporting all the injured members. Donations are being accepted through the Fallen Firefighter Relief Fund.
Police Training Exercise at Irvine Spectrum Center on October 21

On Monday, October 21, from 10:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m., there will be a training exercise at the Irvine Spectrum Center. Expect an increased presence of police vehicles and public safety personnel. The center will be closed during the exercise, and the training area will be clearly marked and staffed with safety personnel.

Metrolink Adds 32 Trains to Weekday Schedule Starting October 21

Starting October 21, Metrolink is launching a new pilot schedule with a 22% increase in weekday service, adding 32 more trains for a total of 174 daily. This update improves travel flexibility, offering over 225 connections at L.A. Union Station (except IE-OC Line) across Southern California. 44 Irvine District Students Selected for SCVA High School Honor Choirs

Forty-four students from Irvine, Portola, and Woodbridge High Schools have been selected to join the prestigious SCVA High School Honor Choirs, the most from any district! These students were chosen from over 500 auditions across Southern California, and will perform in elite choirs at a November concert. Congratulations to all and good luck as they prepare!

UC Irvine Men’s Soccer Defeats CSUN 1-0, Secures Second Straight Shutout

UC Irvine men's soccer secured a 1-0 victory over CSUN, marking their second consecutive shutout. The 'Eaters took an early lead in the 8th minute when Misael Gonzalez scored off a cross from Brady Treinen. UCI controlled much of the first half, dominating possession and corners. Despite CSUN's attempts to equalize in the second half, UCI's goalkeeper Paul Jing made four key saves, maintaining a shutout streak of 327:35 minutes. UCI is now 6-7-1 overall and tied for fourth in Big West standings. Their next game is against Cal Poly on October 23.

Victory for the Lasers: Irvine Valley Men's Soccer Secures First OEC Win, Defeats Santiago Canyon 3-1

Irvine Valley men's soccer secured their first Orange Empire Conference win with a 3-1 victory over Santiago Canyon. Despite losing six close matches earlier in the season, the Lasers improved to 3-8-1 overall and 1-3-1 in conference play. Cristian Sanchez opened the scoring in the third minute, followed by two goals from Armon Haghighat, with assists from Mason Tracey, Marcio Costa, and Luke Newman. Freshman goalkeeper Josh Simonton played the full match, conceding one goal without needing to make a save.

Beckman Football Edges Kennedy 20-14 in Overtime Thriller, Remains Undefeated

Beckman High School’s football team defeated Kennedy 20-14 in overtime, preserving their undefeated season and moving to 8-0 overall and 3-0 in league. The game was a defensive battle with dramatic moments, including Beckman blocking a field goal to send the game into overtime. In OT, Beckman's Noah Czaykowski intercepted a pass, and his brother Makhi scored the winning touchdown, his third of the game. Beckman shares the league lead with Marina, with their matchup on Nov. 1 possibly deciding the league title. Kennedy's rotating quarterbacks performed well, but Beckman’s resilience prevailed.

Police Uncover Brothel in Irvine’s Cypress Village, Arrest Two Men on Sex Trafficking Charges

Officers from the Irvine Police Department's Special Investigations Unit (SIU) uncovered a brothel during a warrant search in Cypress Village. Two men, Qiyin Jiaqiyin, 51, of Irvine, and Xiaoming Ding, 36, of Whittier, were arrested for sex trafficking and are now in Orange County Jail. Three victims were offered assistance, and the investigation was initiated thanks to a witness report of suspicious activity.
