Scam Alert: Beware of Fake Irvine Police Calls Demanding Money
Reports indicate someone is impersonating Irvine Police Department (IPD) officers, calling residents to collect money or fines.
Remember, IPD will never ask for payments over the phone.
Scammers can fake caller ID to appear as government agencies.
If you receive such a call, ask for the caller's name, badge number, and department, then verify by calling IPD directly at (949) 724-7000.
Never pay fines over the phone.

Celebrate Summer’s End: Tchaikovsky Spectacular with Pacific Symphony and Fireworks
Don't miss the grand finale of Summer Fest 2024! On Saturday, September 7 at 8 PM, the Tchaikovsky Spectacular will take place at Great Park Live. Carl St.Clair will lead the Pacific Symphony, with soloist Aubree Oliverson, in a night of Tchaikovsky's legendary works, culminating in the epic "1812 Overture" and a stunning fireworks display. Over 8 weeks, kids aged 6+ can join a fun, free chess class at University Park Library in Irvine. Renowned Cancer Expert Dr. Villalona-Calero Joins UCI Health Chao Cancer Center as Deputy Director
Dr. Miguel A. Villalona-Calero, an internationally recognized cancer expert, has joined the UCI Health Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center as deputy director and chief of the Division of Hematology-Oncology at the UC Irvine School of Medicine. He brings extensive expertise in genomic-driven therapies and innovative immune system approaches to target cancer. Villalona-Calero will lead a team of over 70 oncologists and hematologists, further advancing cancer care in Orange County. His appointment coincides with the opening of a new, cutting-edge cancer facility in Irvine, expanding access to advanced therapies and clinical trials. Villalona-Calero's distinguished career includes leading numerous clinical trials and authoring over 140 publications. His lifelong commitment to cancer research stems from personal experiences and a passion for improving patient outcomes.

Pawsitive News: 25 Furry Friends Adopted, 8 Pets Reunited with Their Families
During August 26–September 1, 7 dogs (Agent, Beto, Blue, Daisy, Frenchi, River, Rocket) and 18 cats (Banxy, Barley, Garnet, Jade, etc.) were adopted. UC Irvine Women's Volleyball Sweeps New Mexico 3-0 to Co-Champion Lobo Invitational
UC Irvine defeated New Mexico 3-0 (25-16, 25-14, 25-18) in the final match of the Lobo Invitational, co-winning the tournament with a 2-1 record. The Anteaters' strong defense held the Lobos to a .000 hitting percentage, with standout performances by Ofure Iselen (8 block assists, 7 kills) and Hunter Riedl (10 kills, 5 block assists). UCI out-blocked New Mexico 13-8, leading in digs (49-41) and aces (6-1). Key players, including Riedl, Nicole Feliciano, and Katie Smith, were named to the all-tournament team. UCI will next host Idaho State on September 5th at 6:00 p.m. at Crawford Court.
UC Irvine Men's Soccer Secures First Win with 3-1 Victory Over Mercyhurst
UC Irvine men's soccer secured their first win of the season with a 3-1 victory over Mercyhurst at Anteater Stadium. Francesco Montanile opened the scoring in the 25th minute, followed by Justin Conyers’ first career goal in the 57th minute. Despite a quick response from Mercyhurst, UCI sealed the win with a late goal from Misael Gonzalez. Alex Shields made two key saves to earn his first collegiate win. UCI, now 1-1-1 on the season, will next face No. 21 UCF on September 6.

Irvine Football Edges Out Portola 24-19; Honors Late Coach Henigan
Irvine High School's football team secured a 24-19 win over Portola at Irvine Stadium, evening their record to 1-1. Brandon "Figgy" Figueroa led with 168 yards on 18 carries and two touchdowns, while Deacon Moss and Diego Monteczuma each scored a TD. The game honored late legendary coach Terry Henigan with a moment of silence. Coach Tom Ricci praised the team's improvement and the respectful gesture from both teams. Portola, coached by Peter Abe, fell to 0-2.
