Tragic Incident at Irvine's Wild Rivers: 12-Year-Old Boy Dies from Medical Condition

A 12-year-old boy died at a hospital after Orange County firefighters and Irvine police responded to a medical aid call at Wild Rivers waterpark on Saturday morning, June 22. Authorities reported the boy appeared to have died from a pre-existing medical condition unrelated to the waterpark. The Coroner’s Office will determine the cause of death. Wild Rivers officials stated that despite swift emergency response, the boy passed away later at the hospital and expressed their condolences to the boy's family. Wild Rivers reopened at Irvine’s Great Park in July 2022, after its previous location closed in 2011.

Prevent Mosquito Bites: Tips from Orange County Mosquito and Vector Control District

Aedes aegypti mosquitoes, known as "ankle biters," have established themselves in Orange County. They typically stay within a few hundred feet of their breeding ground, so if you're getting bitten, the source is likely nearby. To prevent bites, the Orange County Mosquito and Vector Control District suggests inspecting containers and plant saucers weekly for mosquito breeding signs, dumping and draining water-filled containers, and wearing repellents with DEET, Picaridin, IR3535, or oil of lemon eucalyptus. Parents and guardians are invited to bring their children to Totally Untidy Toddlers In-Person, a messy sensory play event that encourages curiosity and essential skill development. UC Irvine Baseball Achieves Historic Milestones in 2024 Season, Sets Multiple Records

UC Irvine baseball reached its 10th NCAA Regional under coach Orloff, with a winning record each season. The team set several records in 2024, including a program-best .763 winning percentage and an NCAA record 175 hit-by-pitches. Eleven players were named to the All-Big West team, with Myles Smith earning Big West Field Player of the Year. They remained in the national polls all season, achieving high rankings in various statistical categories and breaking multiple team and individual records. Coach Orloff celebrated his 200th career win, and the team finished second in the Big West.

IVC Celebrates Exemplary Student-Athletes: Freeman and Swizek Named Character Champions

Irvine Valley College named Emily Freeman and Roman Swizek as the Character Champions of the Year for 2023-24. Freeman, a standout women's basketball player, excelled both on and off the court, serving as a team captain, scholar-athlete, and community leader with a 3.92 GPA. She actively engaged in community outreach, peer tutoring, and fundraising. Swizek, a key player in men's basketball, balanced his faith, academic excellence (3.65 GPA), and athletic commitments, embodying the high character valued at IVC. Both students demonstrated exemplary dedication, leadership, and integrity, making significant contributions to their teams and communities.

Elderly Man's ATM Card Stolen, Suspects Withdraw Over $1700 at Walmart

On May 28, an 84-year-old man's ATM card was either lost or stolen at Walmart, resulting in two fraudulent withdrawals totaling over $1700. The couple in question is suspected of using the man's card for these transactions. If you have any information, please contact [email protected].
