Mag’s Donuts & Bakery has become a longtime Irvine favorite by combining quality, innovation, and strong community roots. Founded by Ning and Yean Yen, Cambodian refugees who rebuilt their lives in Southern California after fleeing war, the family’s story reflects resilience and hard work. After learning the trade through the local Cambodian doughnut shop network, Ning purchased Mag’s in University Park Center, later expanding to a second location in Quail Hill Shopping Center. Known for favorites like the maple bacon cronut alongside classic doughnuts, breakfast sandwiches, smoothies, and coffee, the bakery has continued to thrive through changing trends and challenges by focusing on handcrafted quality and loyal customer relationships. Nearly five decades after arriving in California, the Yen family’s business remains a meaningful part of Irvine.

Celebrate Nowruz with Echoes of Freedom on April 4, at the Renée and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall, where the Pacific Symphony joins internationally acclaimed Iranian and global artists for an evening of music and dance. The Irvine Police Department is warning residents about scammers impersonating the City of Irvine and the Irvine Police Department through fake bills, phone calls, emails, and text messages. These scammers often use fear, urgency, and fake caller IDs or email addresses to pressure people into making immediate payments for supposed fines, fees, or warrants.

Quick Tips to Stay Safe

  • Be cautious of unexpected calls, emails, or texts claiming to be from a government agency

  • Verify directly by using the agency’s official website or phone number

  • Do not click suspicious links or call numbers provided in the message

  • Never share personal, banking, or financial information unexpectedly

  • Avoid payments by gift cards, wire transfers, cryptocurrency, or payment apps

  • Trust your instincts and report suspicious activity to the Irvine Police Department

Celebrate Easter with a Hilltop Luncheon and Egg Hunt at Tanaka Farms

Tanaka Farms is hosting its annual Easter Hilltop Luncheon on April 5, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at its Irvine farm. Guests will enjoy a tractor ride to the scenic hilltop event area, an all-you-can-eat meal prepared by the culinary team, lawn games, family photo opportunities, and visits with the barnyard animals. Children will also receive tickets for an Easter egg hunt game.

UCI Health Kidney Transplant Program Reaches Record 233 Transplants in 2025

UCI Health’s Kidney Transplant Program performed a record 233 transplants in 2025, the highest number in its history, helping improve both quality of life and long-term health outcomes for patients. The program is Orange County’s oldest and largest for kidney, pancreas, and kidney-pancreas transplants, and the only one affiliated with an academic health system in the county. With demand for donor kidneys continuing to exceed supply, UCI Health also continues to promote its long-standing living kidney donor program to expand access for patients in need.

Quail Hill Loop Begins Major Native Habitat Restoration Project in Irvine

The City of Irvine and Irvine Ranch Conservancy are moving forward with a long-term habitat enhancement project at Quail Hill Loop, bringing major restoration efforts to one of Irvine’s most popular trails.

  • Over the next decade, more than 7,500 native trees will be planted across 245 acres to restore habitat, expand tree canopy, improve biodiversity, and support local wildlife.

  • Early phases will focus on upland native species such as coast live oak, elderberry, and laurel sumac, with riparian trees planned for wetter areas in later years.

  • Interpretive panels have also been installed along the trail to help visitors learn about the restoration work, while community volunteer opportunities will allow residents to take part in planting and maintenance as the landscape continues to grow and evolve

Free Spring Craft Event: Q-Tip Cherry Blossom Portraits at University Park Library

Celebrate spring with a fun and creative activity at University Park Library on Friday, April 10, from 2:00–3:30 p.m. Join the Create-It-Yourself: Q-Tip Cherry Blossom Portraits workshop, where adults can use Q-tips to paint cherry blossom portraits inspired by the beauty of the season. Walk-ins are welcome while supplies last, and admission is free.

Low-Cost Pet Vaccines & Microchipping Clinic Coming to Irvine April 4

The Irvine Animal Care Center is partnering with Vet Care Vaccination Services to offer low-cost vaccines and microchipping for dogs and cats on April 4 from 9–11 a.m. in the Irvine Animal Care Center parking lot. The clinic is first come, first served, so pet owners are encouraged to arrive early. This affordable event makes it easier to keep pets healthy, safe, and protected.

UC Irvine Baseball Opens Series With 4–1 Win Over UC Davis

UC Irvine Anteaters baseball opened its series against UC Davis Aggies baseball with a 4–1 home win, earning its third straight Big West victory. Trevor Hansen struck out nine over 8.1 innings, while Rowan Felsch’s early home run helped lead UCI’s 11-hit performance.
