Irvine Considers Leaving OCPL: What It Means for Orange County's Thriving Libraries

Orange County libraries are seeing a significant increase in visitors, with the Westminster branch experiencing a 32% rise in 2023. Renovations and improved accessibility have contributed to this growth. Irvine, a major funder of the OCPL, is considering withdrawing from the county system to address local library renovation needs, which could impact OCPL's budget by 28%. Popular branches like Irvine Heritage Park and Garden Grove Main also saw high attendance. The potential exit of Irvine raises concerns about financial shortfalls and resource redistribution for the remaining branches, as OCPL has yet to plan for this scenario.

Irvine’s Parks Ranked No. 1 in California, No. 4 in U.S. by Trust for Public Land

Irvine’s park system has been ranked No. 1 in California and No. 4 in the U.S. by the Trust for Public Land for the second year in a row. The city’s 300+ parks, created through a long-term partnership between the Irvine Company and the city, cover a third of the city, with over 90% of residents living within a 10-minute walk of a park. Irvine invests heavily in its parks, offering amenities like resort-like pools, sports courts, and athletic fields, making it a great place to live. Plans are in place to expand park areas and trails. Research shows that residents living near parks are fitter, friendlier, and happier. Irvine’s Master Plan, which emphasizes green spaces, has contributed to this success, and the commitment to maintaining these spaces continues to grow.

Understanding and Managing Time Blindness in ADHD: Insights from UCI Health Experts

Time blindness, a less common symptom of ADHD, is the persistent inability to gauge the passage of time. Dr. Geeta Grover of UCI Health emphasizes that overcoming it involves rethinking and resetting one's relationship to time. Treatment includes behavioral strategies, cognitive therapy, medication, and time management tools like timers and visual lists. Self-compassion and support from loved ones and professionals are crucial. Time blindness is a real symptom of ADHD, not laziness or purposeful behavior. More details at (https://bit.ly/45q2zSv).
