Celebrate Safely This Independence Day With These Fireworks Safety Tips

Independence Day is one of the most celebrated holidays of the year, but it also brings a high risk of fireworks-related injuries. More than 9,000 people are injured by fireworks annually, with nearly half of those injuries affecting people under age 20.
The most common injuries involve burns, fractures, and sprains to the hands and fingers, while injuries to the eyes, head, torso, and legs can also occur.
Firecrackers, bottle rockets, sparklers, reloadable shells, and Roman candles are among the fireworks most often linked to injuries, and nearly 20% of injuries involve illegal fireworks.
To stay safe, avoid touching or handling burns, avoid applying creams or ointments, never break blisters, and seek medical attention for any significant injury.
For serious burns, call 911 immediately.
Cool burns with clean running water.
Try choosing safer alternatives such as glow sticks, bubbles, or confetti

Celebrate July 4 with a Scenic Fireworks Night Hike in Orchard Hills

Join the City of Irvine’s Independence Day Fireworks Night Hike on Saturday, July 4, from 7–10 p.m. in Orchard Hills. This challenging 4-mile guided hike climbs 1,100 feet to a scenic hillside viewpoint where participants can watch fireworks from Irvine’s open space under the night sky.
