City of Hope Expands Irvine Campus with $88.5 Million Land and Building Purchase
City of Hope has purchased 52 acres of land near its Great Park Neighborhoods campus in Irvine, along with the 2000 FivePoint building housing its administrative offices, for a total of $88.5 million. This acquisition, adjacent to its Lennar Foundation Cancer Center, reflects City of Hope's commitment to serving patients and families, according to President Annette Walker.
Brilliant Boats and Festive Fireworks: Newport Beach Lights Up the Holidays
Experience the magic of the 116th Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade, December 18-22, at 6:30 p.m. nightly in Newport Harbor. Featuring decorated boats, opening-night fireworks, and grand marshals, the parade starts and ends at the Tip of Lido Isle. Enjoy free admission, public viewing at Marina Park, and waterfront dining options for a festive holiday outing!
How to Recycle Food Waste During the Holidays: A Quick Guide
The holiday season often brings excess food waste, but you can make a difference by recycling responsibly! Instead of tossing leftovers, place them in your curbside organics bin to keep waste out of landfills.
Accepted Items for Curbside Organics Bins:
Food Scraps: Fruits, vegetables, meat, dairy, bread, eggshells, coffee grounds.
Yard Waste: Grass clippings, leaves, small branches.
Compostable Paper: Napkins, paper towels, pizza boxes, food-soiled paper.

UCI Volleyball Stars Honored for Academic and Athletic Excellence
Katie Smith and Kendra MacDonald, standout outside hitters, were named to the 2024 CSC Academic All-Districtยฎ Women's Volleyball team, recognizing their excellence both on the court and in the classroom. To qualify, athletes must maintain a minimum 3.50 GPA and actively contribute to at least 50% of the seasonโs games. Smith led the Big West in ace average (0.40), ranked 12th in kills per set (2.88), and achieved double-digit kills in 18 matches, including a career-high 20 against Portland. MacDonald averaged 2.41 kills and 1.81 digs per set, finishing the season strong with a career-best 20 kills and a .576 hitting percentage against CSUN. The CSC has celebrated academic and athletic achievements since 1952, honoring over 38,000 athletes across various sports.

Man Arrested in Orange County for Attempted Trafficking and Firearm Offenses
An Irvine Police detective working with the Orange County Human Trafficking Task Force (OCHTTF) apprehended Lawrence Everett Henderson, 35, of Stockton, following a social media operation. Henderson, who believed he was recruiting a female for trafficking, drove from the Bay Area to Orange County to meet her. Upon arrival, detectives arrested him and discovered a loaded Glock pistol with high-capacity magazines in his vehicle. He was charged with multiple offenses, including pandering, attempted pimping, firearm possession by a felon, resisting arrest, and possessing high-capacity magazines. The OCHTTF continues its dedicated efforts to combat human trafficking and protect victims.
