Ten Charged After UC Irvine Protest Declared Unlawful Assembly, Faces Court in October
Ten people were charged with failing to disperse following a May 15 protest at UC Irvine, which was declared an unlawful assembly after demonstrators, protesting the suspension of students involved in a pro-Palestine rally, set up an encampment on campus. Around 50 people were arrested after hours of clashes with police, who cleared the area by 10 p.m. The Orange County District Attorney has charged 10 individuals, including two professors and four students, with misdemeanor counts, and they are scheduled to appear in court on October 16. The DA emphasized the importance of peaceful protest but warned against criminal behavior.
Airport Fire Reaches 23,519 Acres with 39% Containment, Crews Making Steady Progress
Evening Update for September 18: The Airport Fire remains at 23,519 acres with 39% containment. Firefighters are making good progress, with minimal smoke observed and crews actively working on nearly all parts of the perimeter. Firebreaks are being extended, and some crews are being airlifted into challenging areas. Fireline rehabilitation has begun to reduce the environmental impact. A low-pressure system may bring drizzle, benefiting the firefighting efforts. A temporary flight restriction (TFR) is in place through September 25, possibly extending. Drones are prohibited, as they pose a serious danger to firefighting aircraft and ground operations.

Energy Drinks: Are They Really Necessary? UCI Expert Weighs In
Energy drinks can provide a quick boost but should be used with caution, according to Dr. Christopher Kroner, a UCI Health sports medicine expert. He advises that they are generally unnecessary for most people and should only be used sparingly. Many energy drinks contain nearly 200mg of caffeine, almost double that of a regular coffee, which can lead to side effects like palpitations, anxiety, and high blood pressure. Instead, Kroner recommends healthier energy boosters such as regular exercise, proper sleep, hydration, and a balanced diet to maintain sustainable energy.

Wash their paws to remove dirt, allergens, and harmful substances
Trim the fur between their pads for better traction

Woodbridge Girls Flag Football Shuts Out University 13-0, Extends Lead in Pacific Coast League
Woodbridge High School's girls flag football team defeated University 13-0 in a key Pacific Coast League matchup, extending their lead in the league standings. The Warriors, now 11-5 overall and 6-0 in league play, capitalized on two big plays: a 20-yard interception return for a touchdown by Zoey Ceman and a 60-yard TD pass from quarterback Laney Brucker to Lana Ameen. Brucker also contributed on defense with an interception, while linebacker Dyllan Harris dominated with key flag pulls. Despite Universityโs late efforts, Woodbridge held on to secure the win. The teams will meet again on Oct. 14. Both teams are likely headed to the CIF playoffs.
