UC Irvine Surpasses $2.4 Billion in Record-Breaking Brilliant Future Campaign

UC Irvine’s Brilliant Future Campaign Surpasses $2.4 Billion
UC Irvine marked its 60th anniversary by announcing the close of its record-breaking Brilliant Future campaign, which raised over $2.4 billion—nearly half a billion above its $2 billion goal. The multiyear effort, the largest philanthropic campaign in Orange County history, drew support from 122,000+ donors, with 84% contributing for the first time and 93,000 alumni re-engaging through giving, mentoring, and events.
Key Achievements
$2.4 billion raised, 73% of gifts were $100 or less
269 new scholarships, fellowships, and awards created
$1.7 billion dedicated to research and academic departments
Six new buildings completed through philanthropy
111% growth in alumni chapters worldwide
Campaign Impact
The campaign advanced UC Irvine’s four core pillars:
Student Opportunity: Expanded scholarships and programs through gifts from alumni such as Paul and Jo Butterworth, John Tracy, and the Santora and Peterson families.
Health and Wellness: Established the Susan & Henry Samueli College of Health Sciences and expanded UCI Health – Irvine with new facilities like the Chao Family Cancer Center and the Joe C. Wen & Family Center for Advanced Care.
Human Experience: Strengthened arts, culture, and global studies through major gifts supporting the Langson Orange County Museum of Art, the Alec Glasser Center for the Power of Music and Social Change, and endowed chairs in cultural studies.
World-Changing Research: Advanced breakthroughs in biotechnology, quantum science, AI, and environmental education, supported by donors such as Susan and Henry Samueli, Charlie Dunlop, and the Beall family.

Irvine Police Nab Pair After String of Retail Thefts from Whole Foods, Ulta Stores

Last month, Irvine Police officers were alerted by license plate readers to a vehicle linked to a prior Spectrum theft. When stopped near The District, officers found the suspects had just stolen groceries from Whole Foods and cosmetics from Ulta. A check of nearby stores and surveillance confirmed thefts from six additional Ulta locations totaling about $2,500 in stolen goods. Jeimmy Tatiana Rozo Rodriguez, 39, and Jhonatan Stivens Mina Escobar, 29, of Hawthorne, were arrested and booked at Orange County Jail for possessing stolen property. IPD emphasizes its commitment to pursuing crime thoroughly.
